Once upon a time, there have been some friends playing a nasty little game.
It took some time to spread all over the world from sweden,
but in this days you can see waves of players from all around the globe. By the way isn't asia still underrepresented?
Be part of an active community regarding the number of available modifications.

To be honest, this is a copy from two other teeworlds websites (forum 1 and forum 2), but I kind of want to transfer it to this place.

This work is open for your suggestions, tell me intersting things I could add.

People say that tw is not being developed fast enough but looking at this the game has come a long way since 2007

Thanks for your comments and the suggestion regarding a teeworlds wiki, I definetely support that idea!
Of course, Dune, it is based on my personal interest and not a complete list of modifications either, but limiting it to official stuff has been discarded when I first started the list. Not only it would have been quite short, because my lack of in-depth knowledge of development process, but yet not what I had in mind.
This should give an overview of the lively community and active development, gathering manifold and creative ideas.

As for my second topic which became a long list I use spoiler codes normally smile

I think it's a good idea to keep it, it's interessting to see when cheats begin to appear in a game history.

Okay I will accept the censorship, it is reasonable.
But still an interesting part of the game, when DID appear bot-clients the first time? Automatic aiming or shooting are not that good in every gametype, unfortunately those I preferred suffered severely from bots (instagib gametypes).


As I have mentioned below the list: feel free to share additional or missing dates and events.

To be honest, for me teeworlds has always been a community project: contributing new ideas, concrete lines of code, complete modifications and maps of course. First thing in the game you notice is probably the mass of possible gametypes.
So for me it was just reasonable to name at least some "unofficial" things smile

Maybe we can find a graphic artist who illustrates this timeline with some graphics? e.g. a tee with a laser for instagib.
Then it is possible to put all official dates above the timeline and community stuff beneath the time line.

Let me ask you why you want to seperate the list and all what it represents?
Following the forum discussions I notice tendencies against modifications in general. Especially at a timeline all those dates mark an effort to extend the game, pushing its limits and going beyond sometimes.
In my opinion thats a great form of appreciation for the game itself.

Although in the end it is not a developer but a players decision what is played...

I think you misunderstood me. First of all i want to make clear that it would be interesting to see the development of community and official stuff right next to each other e.g. like this

Then there are a cople of community developments which did not make teeworlds better ... e.g. the development of bots or cheat clients. If you had experienced the old days where people had fun inventing and sharing new techniques, graphics, maps ... then you would know why people wish the ol days back where everyone played the same game on a couple of maps.

Okay, right thats definetely not what I made of your message, even better.
And yes, I do not know the scene of modifications for that long, yet in my experience it is a second world which is only semi-permeable (technically spoken) - new inventions are not implememented into official client. Anyway.
Your idea looks good, yet I am not able to integrate such a table in this forum software, it does not provide the shortcodes to do so. And on the other hand, embed as graphic file, it would not be possible to copy text and couldn't be found via search engines. Visual impression against usability.

Well, the first bot I know of, was in the time of ifreeze, 0.5.1,

And I didnt mean to delete the whole part about cheats appearing in the game, but rather  deleting the links linking the cheats

Oh rest assured, there has not been much about cheat clients, just one in particular around 2011 which was definetely not the first. Only one very popular for iCTF, yet some years earlier people have been seeking help by special clients... harrassing other players. So there is not any relevant part missing and the link was unavailable anyway (the client was mentioned there, not for download).

Ahm, this was not meant to start another thread to fight about the right way to go on with future releases - but of course it is an interesting discussion wink
Still I am not sure if I want to see such an ugly image in my thread, sorry HeroiAmarelo - but I can not delete it myself, just asking you to edit your post. I am pretty sure the numbers have not changed much over time.
Let us see if developers dare to start an experiment and forbid all modifications in the next release to generate a different player distribution tongue
