Topic: Dedicated server arrived, 0.3.4 release imminent

While matricks tinkers with installation CD:s and raid controllers, we'd like to take this opportunity to brief you on recent events, an upcoming Teewars release and our plans for the future.

Up until now, the Teewars master server responsible for tracking running servers and games has been a single point-of-failure in the Teewars architecture; this quickly became apparent when the internet connection at matricks' house went down, and people started reporting empty server lists. The quick fix was to set up a secondary master server at Teetow's place and redirect the DNS entry, but servers already running would not get the updated IP address. In order to solve this once and for all, we'll be releasing Teewars 0.3.4 this weekend, which will contain a hotfix for querying multiple master servers.

We're also happy to announce that the dedicated server has arrived! Ain't she a beaut? The server will be installed, configured and prepped to host everything related to Teewars; The master server, the website, you name it. Look forward to radically improved website responsiveness in the near future.

It sure is a beauty! But why IBM, the Apple Xserve looks even better! wink

Just a little curious, what are the specs on the server and what OS is going to be installed?

It's a refurbished IBM x330 series. Dual 1.2ghz P3, 2gb ram and 2x 18gb scsi 15krpm (going for raid 1). Not much diskspace but then again we don't need that much either so. I'm going to run Debian 4.0 on it or perhaps FreeBSD.

Not yet decided. We have some options that we are looking into.

netherlands has a good connection, and in the games i played in the past the servers hosted in NL where the best..

No. Teewars isn't open source according to the OSI definition of open source.

The license must allow modifications and derived works, and must allow them to be distributed under the same terms as the license of the original software.

Our license doesn't allow redistribution of modified versions. Our new license that 0.4.0 will be under is however.
