Topic: Lag Problem (Reposted from BUGS AND OS THREAD)

Sorry for posting in the other thread.

Here is my post again:

    Hey there!

    Right, downloaded Teewars:

    OS: Ubuntu Feisty (7.04)
PC: Laptop Dell C610 PIII 1G 256mb Ram Ati Radeon Mobility M6 16mb

    Teewars: 0.2.3-linux86

Bug: Extremely slow. Even in the menu I cannot do much since the mouse pointer lags. I suspect this is not a bug as such but maybe my hardware is too slow?

    Any advice appreciated.

Sorry if this post is in the wrong area hehe

Right, I have installed the 3d drivers, for I have Compiz running proper, no change, I tried 3 different drivers that were in the Ubuntu repositories...

I will keep hunting around though...

Hve you tried running any other 3d apps? Do they work while compiz is running?

Languages shapes the way we think, or don't.

Hey, AGS smile *waves*

I'll get someone to take a look at your specs, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to enable some performance-saving options in the cfg-file, such as

gfx_texture_compression=1
gfx_high_detail=0
gfx_texture_quality=0

Hey Teetow. Respect dude.

Question to you guys, where do I find the cfg file?

I tried opening teewars with gedit no joy...

~/.teewars/default.cfg on *nix systems

Re: Lag Problem (Reposted from BUGS AND OS THREAD)

Okay

so I fixed the problem.

1: I still cannot find the default.cfg file, I even did $sudo find -name "*teewars*"

Couldn't find it.

But no probs.

2: I did the following:

Edited xorg.conf to change driver from "ati" to "radeon"
Edited default depth to change from "24" to "16"
Ran TEEWARS! (0.3.1)

Set resolution to "1024x768x16"

The new version (0.3.0 onwards) is great, I just played with my laptop online to give it a go and all worked swimmingly.

Here is a thread on Ubuntuforums where I found my fix and there are some others for people with similar hardware to mine. /EDIT--> I seem to be unable to post a URL, no probz, someone should fix it, or just copy and paste haha /EDIT again--> Maybe I fixed it now...

One note, on 0.3.1 the lag when I hit FIRE is noticeably slower than on 0.3.0. (My best ping ever was 350ish *cringe* and my normal ping is 500+) otherwise its much more playable than the previous version.

Movement and so on seems roughly the same lag wise... its only when I want to blast someone that it goes *click*.....................................................*boooom*

I believe I have just managed to shoot myself in the rear...

Anybody that has a old dell laptop can msg me and I will gladly help if I can.

Great game guys!

I'll gladly help out with an Afrikaans voice mod if you ever bring country type things in as with worms.

Now to get 'nuff RSA players online so's to get an SA server going...

Re: Lag Problem (Reposted from BUGS AND OS THREAD)

I have the same problem as he had.
It's like i have 2 cursors, my normal one and the tee one that follows mine with delay.
I've tried changing the textures and so in the config directory but it didnt help.
I am not good with computers, but where can I find where to edit the default depth?
and where can I find xorg.conf ?

*did some googling, but in my "etc" map there is no X11 map.*

Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference.

Re: Lag Problem (Reposted from BUGS AND OS THREAD)

It's supposed to be in /etx/X11/xorg.conf if you run xorg (allmost everyone do if they are unsure)
Remember that linux is case sensetive!

Used to be very active waay back

and what if I have this problem with Xp sp2?
what should I do to fix it?

Re: Lag Problem (Reposted from BUGS AND OS THREAD)

My guess is VGA driver.

Right Click on "My Computer" select "Administration" and under "Hardware Information" you should see "Device Manager" (sorry, too lazy to boot into XP to see the actual correct sequence of clicks...)

Look for "display adapters" or such and google the name of your screen card. Another option is to simply right click on your desktop and looking at your display settings. Under "Advanced" you should see the model of your screen card.

Google the name of the device and look for the newest driver.

SP2 does a great job of auto detecting your display card, but OpenGL support is shoddy to say the least.

Install the proper screen driver and you should be Tee-ing in short order!
