Topic: Teeworlds Review

Hi everyone.

I'm about to write my first review for a a casual gaming website, http://casualtygamer.com/.

What I'd like to ask is, is there a slightly more dressed up Teeworlds banner I can use besides the one on the top of this site? I'm curious about the teeworlds-db and some of the art there, but don't know how to get in touch with the author of one banner I like, a "101kl" who made "SP_TW_Background".

Can anyone help me find some art I may use, or to get in touch with 101kl? Thank you, and I promise to write a glowing review smile

0.5.0 is already finished for 92% and new feautures will be added! Just wait a week or two!

I can't help you at the background, sorry.

Re: Teeworlds Review

http://www.teeworlds.com/forum/profile.php?id=1405 is 101kl's profile with his mail & msn. Think that's the way to contact him about such matters. But I agree with Hooker that 0.5.0 will probably bring even more features to write about, and a general improvement of quality.

If you have any more questions I'm sure the community will do all they can to answer them. After all we are all in favor of a nice review.

Re: Teeworlds Review

I'll have a chat with the editor. I will complete the review as scheduled, but may not publish it until the 0.5.0 update. If I publish early anyway, I don't really expect a huge loss in review accuracy, I'm sure Teeworlds will retain the general feel. smile

Thank you for 101kl's contact details. If I can't get permission then that's fine, I might make my own banner, since 101kl's art doesn't really showcase the intrinsically cute nature of this game.

I don't really have any questions, I've played the game a substantial amount on Australian servers with other casual players, so I have an established opinion of the game's feel, the only thing left is writing smile

The review is here, in case anyone wants to look at it. I understand my criticisms of the UI will probably be rectified in future releases, but for now please just take it as it is smile

Re: Teeworlds Review

Except some fact faults, I think it's quite nice smile

You might wanna know that teeworlds-db.com isn't official at all, and that the ninja has a chosen place on all maps, and appear each 90 seconds.

Re: Teeworlds Review

G'day,
I have a couple comments about the review.

"As a final fun power-up, the game boasts a Samurai sword which, if on the map, appears at random."

This is, as far as I know, not true at all. It doesn't appear randomly, but spawns every x seconds. I'm not sure what x is, but I am pretty sure it isn't "random".

"Everything has obvious purpose from its appearance and being vector based allows the game to scale to weird resolutions"

The game is not vector based... As you later tell yourself:

"Additionally, all game assets are stored as plain PNG files, meaning that the game graphics can be turned into just about anything."

PNG files are bitmapped images. Therefore, scaling them doesn't result in the same crispness of a real vector image.

"There is an official Teeworlds database with hundreds of custom skins, game world replacements and so on, making everything damn easy."

I don't think it is official.

Besides that, it was a good review. Hopefully this will help bring more Aussie players smile

Re: Teeworlds Review

Thank you for the criticisms. I'll have a chat with the editor to see if I can make amendments.

I believed the ninja sword did not appear on one of the smaller CTF maps, but it sppears it does.

If it wasn't turned off by the server admin, it appears on all official maps every 90 seconds.

you are right, but I remember games on ctf1 with katana. Could have been with the ninja/zombie mod.
