Re: [TILESET] Panda

Sorry for this post, but I can't use IRC right now.
Landil, I have read your post about graphical developpement for Teeworlds. I have the time to improve it to fit teeworlds graphical style, and add more contents.

If you think that's possible, give me your ideas and your opinions about the colors, the shapes, anything that's not really "teeish". If you have some ideas for new content, (or a scan of your design big_smile), I can try to reproduce it with Inkscape.

Thank you smile

You could use the webchat if you can't connect with an IRC client from where you are.

Re: [TILESET] Panda

GENERAL TEESTYLE

- parallel perspective
- keep it simple stupid: use basic shapes
- teeworlds is an archetypical world. All graphics should be the perfect representation of its real life models.
- do not use blur (except for main tiles shading)
- do not use gradients
- use as few colors as possible
- use the bezier curve tool (do NOT use the freehand tool) and use as few nodes as possible
- take care of symmetry
- avoid complexity / many details

DOODADS:

Outlines: -
Colors: few basic colors, (avoid screaming colors)
Shading: 1 (sometimes 2) shadows for each color

Antoine de Saint Exupéry: It seems that perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

So I just made a quick sketch regarding the house for you as an inspiration to rework your house

it is parallax perspective
very basic shapes only (Everything is made up from circles
I did not use any outlines.
Only very little colors (no black, no white, only grays) and the shading is very simple (only one color)
no gradients

Besides -  I am the gfx guy!

Re: [TILESET] Panda

you forgot the eyes lol

Re: [TILESET] Panda

it was supposed to be an inspiration, not a complete graphic

I've draw some ideas for doodads and background : scan 1 and scan 2. What do you think ? (I've just notice that some objects are not draw using the paralax perspective ^^)

No. It was definitely less work than making some doodads.

Re: [TILESET] Panda

Thank you Landil for your comment !

Okay, so I've done some more work, I've tried to be simpler than the last time.
I've also work the shadow.

First, I've reproduced your bamboo to learn how to do simple shape.
Then, according to the japanese garden theme, I've done a simple rounded rock, believe it or not, it took me a lot of time to get a correct shadow.

Then I've draw a first bonsai, i'm not sure if it fit the teeworlds style, but i'm much satisfied with than my last work. The shadow, the leaves and the colors needs more tweaks in my opinion.

And the associated SVG. Ahlala, solidfiles wont process my SVG sad
I've draw some other doodads (scan3), trying to respect the parralax perspective. "Zen garden" on google image give me a lot of ideas !

Re: [TILESET] Panda

can you pls reupload the svg pls? Somehow it does not work

http://i.solidfiles.net/053cb8e01e.png

I somehow forgot: the sharp elliptical shapes are used in the jungle tileset. Don't they? wink

Besides, good work. I enjoy seeing the tileset developing.

Re: [TILESET] Panda

I've draw some new doodads. I choose to regulary post because i'm a beginner and Landil comments are very precious for me.

So first, as you suggested, I've replace the leaves of the tree. Because I like it more than the last try. I've also thicken a bit the bamboos. The bonsai shadow is also a bit thicken.

http://i.solidfiles.net/6fabcb29e1.png

Also, I've draw a tiny pile of rocks, the "symbol" of zen garden. I not happy with the shadow and the colors.

http://i.solidfiles.net/a0711f9c9c.png

To finish, I've begin to draw a chinese red lantern and a other style of lantern inspired by the "generics lamps" doodads.

Panda statue ! (from scratch)

  • First try : It doesn't respect teeworlds rules for statues. It must looks like a skin.

  • Second try : Without tee eyes

  • Third try : With tee eyes

Wow I'm stunned! I really enjoy the progres you are making here.
You have some serious talent boy!

Re: [TILESET] Panda

I've worked on the main tiles. Landil suggest me to use the yellow bamboos for the floor. I've also tested some unhookable tiles. What do you think ?

(No, It doesn't respect rules for tiles, there is no outline)

I try again, with the help of Landil :

looks amazing needs esp that last pic!!!

Re: [TILESET] Panda

Good progress, keep up the work (:

That bamboo would maybe fit as well in the background (bamboo forest), the panda paw looks pretty cute.
I would change the bonsai to sth like this (sry for the messy quick sketch big_smile)
