Why dont you make a branch of this client in which you would remove all those features because of which this client was banned. (There are not so many of them afaik) That way you could post the direct link to that branch build here and not have to play silly games. Your work would gain more popularity and it will be easier to decide if a patch is worth submitting to the mainline.

And if anyone would need the version of the client with the 'extra' stuff, he will know where to look for it, without the need to post it on these forums. And i would discourage you of posting builds of which you know there are bugs - crashes at most. When releasing a beta disable those features and release a stable - in means of stable as far as you know - client. Releasing binaries of which you know they crash is not very professional.

Anyway I hope you will submit some patches to the game, when it gets time for that, keep up the good work and have fun.

I think you should ask good players and respected mappers what they think about your map (not devs anyway). It doesnt look bad at a first glance, so just get someone to host it and let it turn out if its worth playing.

20e for a server manager, which manages a free game, wait why isnt there a fun category ?

There is another possibility - to write a custom client which will be connected 24/7 to your server and it will act as a pipe between the rcon and you. This solution comes at a cost of having one slot less for players, but it keeps the server unmodded.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm happy that there are many archers liking the game.

Very interesting discussion going on, and many valid points too. I have read the older discussion about tweaking the laser and there are valid points there too. In my opinion laser bounces have nothing to do with luck - they are a coincidence, but so is a coincidence if I shoot a random rocket somewhere i dont see, but expect my enemy - not because i saw him, but because i am shooting at a place where player traffic is frequent. I'm talking about rocket spam, and if I hit while rocket spamming it's the same coincidence as if I hit with a missed laser shot. I am not comparing the laser to the rl here, just pointing out that luck-shots are possible with the rl too, but they happen less frequent, or are claimed not to be luck but intuition.

I think the main problem with the rifle is that it is superficial to all weapons - in means of attacking another player. You can attack at any range, from standing next to your opponent to being out of his sight, you are hitting instantly and do a solid 5 dmg. Most of the bounces which hit even when missed are a linear outcome of this situation - when you are standing too close to your opponent and miss, the bounce has a bigger chance of hitting back because the bounce is longer; if you shoot at someone from bigger distance the bounce is smaller, and usually at very low angle.

My proposed solution to this problem is to make the laser take damage based upon the length of the ray travelling from the weapon to the victim. The minimum damage would be 2 and maximum would be 5. Being out of hook range would be around 4 dmg to discourage the usage of this weapon in close combat. This would also encourage players to use the bounce on-purpose because you can deal more damage if you hit a close enemy with a bounce rather that with a direct hit. And maybe the bounce could deal 1 additional damage regardless of ray length. This surely wont prevent all luck-shots but I think it will help, since people wont use the rifle as an all-purpose hunting weapon, but only for certain situations like all the other weapons.

I think your points about the lucky-bounce factor are all valid, and if you ask me I rarely use the laser bounce on-purpose, but I would like to point out that you should not 'judge' such important factors like changing a weapons behaviour on just one gametype, and few maps, since only 2 official maps (played on hi-level) in ctf have the laser - ctf2 and ctf3. Moreover I think laser bounce is very handy in ctf3 - the map structure makes it hard to attack, so using the bounce can be really useful. I dont know how important the laser is in DM/TDM since I dont play those too often, I just know there isn't any on dm1, so it has no impact on duels.

Thanks for the temporary sticky, I hope this will bring some of the (desired) attention here.

As a next step I could imagine advertising the game with a review like this in some USA-based magazines, since the game is not very popular there. So if anyone from the USA wants to make this game more popular, take a look around and search for some online communities/magazines that might be interested in featuring a review like this on their site/magazine.

Thanks for implementing this project. When I see user-made contributions like this I am certain that there is a bright future ahead for teeworlds. And I dont mean developement only, a project like this can certainly help in making the community more mature and friendly.

A natural-developement would be to keep the servers running, while advertising the existence of this game to online-gaming communities based in the USA, plus advertising on existing european clan-sites. Then when the game is running with a stable player base for some time, people in the USA will start organizing clans, their sites, more servers and then it is "safe" to provide modded servers too.

For advertising in the USA you can try writing to some websites/magazines that focus on online games, and for the other part - advertising your servers on existing clan sites, I think people here are willing to help.

I think if you advertised your servers as the only USA based vanilla servers you would get a lot of players, wanting to play vanilla. You could search for USA-based clans and offer them a clanserver, making it possible for them to take part in clanwars, and organizing their own tournaments.

I am really disappointed by the community response to this call of feedback, if I understand properly you want to provide a service with good quality, and want lots of players playing them. In my opinion if you start running just another Zombie, X-Crap and WooHoo-Race mod this will result in mostly european players playing on your servers with high pings, whereas if you run vanilla games, you will get local players with good ping. This game has to set it's foot in the USA and this server is a great opportunity, unless you start running 20 mods before the people have a chance to know the original game. That would be sad.

Good luck with your project.

Heh, what do you call this, Irony ? People going offtopic in the thread of a moderator, thats like jumping into the Lion-cage in the zoo, because ur cookie fell there.

And now about moderation: I think you are doing a really good job, but some of the things AMN mentioned really annoy me too. I have an idea regarding this, but its not really related to moderation. Ill make a topic about that idea later.

On the other side, are there any other active moderators ? If not, the admin-mod team could sit down together (at irc perhaps) and talk about possible recruits. People who have a common sense and are willing to help etc.

Hi all, i'm happy to announce that our review has finally made it into the archlinux user magazine. Therefore I would like to thank all the people who helped to pull this project to the end. Special thanks to:
Azon for making us a nice place at teewiki to collaborate,
Landil for his awesome graphics
and AMN who helped me re-structure the article.
and Lappi (<3) too, who did alot of the texting

To read the magazine go here - pdf - html. To see the feedback go to their forums.

PS.: I want all people who helped to be proud. You have made a great work.

First of all bumping a topic is not nice, so you shouldnt do it.

To host a server over the internet you need to be able to open ports. To open ports you need to be able to access your router's configuration. Go to http://portforward.com and select your router from the list to access a guide on how to forward ports for your router. ( If you can't find the exact model, try a random model from the same vendor which is similar to your router ).

Even then not all ISP's allow you to forward ports, so you may also want to connect your ISP and ask for information/help.

I would prefer the current structure because its simpler, and even with the current categories there are a lot of posts which are in the wrong category. Imagine how many misplaced topics would be with even more categories. Further more I dont see any real advantage that this structure would bring.

You may have more luck submitting the patch in the official release if this feature is really needed. I dont think many will download a client for just one feature. But thumbs up for the effort.

The trusted client (the binary) contains the private key, which can be extracted by means of debugging and reverse-engineering.

Imo this doesnt prevent all cheating because not all forms of cheating are a result of modified source, the second thing is I am not sure it is worth implementing this, since it has been said a lot of times that fighting cheaters is not worth it, I would rather see the devs developing the game for the good of us all, than having to fight cheaters. Seriously, who cares, play on moderated servers, thats all. But if you have the potential to code this just go for it, I'm not saying this is not needed, I just want to say that imho its an overkill for a not-that big problem.

Merry Christmas thar !

Lol ? What reason do you need against pornographic and pedophile material on a forum visited by kids ?

Please listen, if you dont see how such a feature is abusive you fail. All you want from this feature is to join a full server ASAP, which is a selfish and childish act and behaviour. You fail to see that if there are 10 others people like you using this feature on the same server at the same time ( which can easily happen with ~1000 players at the same time ) the server will be flooded, making it more laggy for the players playing. It was told 1000 times that this is a WRONG feature, yet you keep bitching at poor Magnet for doing his job.

Please try to keep things civil and do not discuss moderation in public. // ~{MS}~ Azon

It's disgusting, get a life.

I think Magnet was totally right about removing the links to this mod, because it offers abusive features which give a player significant advantage/s over players with vanilla clients.

But I also think that this mod contains some useful features which could be merged into the official release, so in my opinion if you want to help develop this game why dont you join irc and talk with the devs about it. I'm sure you could agree on some features which could be added after the refactoring and if your code is clean it will be merged. That way you could make the game better instead of dividing the community between many client mods. In your topic about the upcoming features this was already said by a developer - void, so just do it. If you have already done it, then keep going.

Your work is appreciated and your mod is nice.
